Julia Child is a famous cooking chef and television personality. She is credited with bring French cooking over to America. She is famous for her cooking book, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. Before cooking, Julia child was a part of the Office of Strategic Services during World War , an intelligence agency of the United States. She was given much responsibility because of her education and experience. She was never allowed to be in the Women’s Army Corp of the United States WAVES because she was too tall for a woman. Child’s went to cooking school after the military and collaborated to write a cooking book that would later introduce America to French cuisine. She was a television personality, with many shows, from 1970’s to the early 2000’s. Child died on August 13, 2004 of kidney failure. Her legacy is carried on with her cookbooks, tasty recipes, and television programs. A rose , found in the United Kingdom , was named the Julia Child Rose, after Julia Child.

She is the only fashion designer to be included in Times Magazines list of “100 most influential people of the 20th century”. She is the designer of jewelry, handbags, and fragrances. She is credited with revolutionizing women’s fashion. Her signature scent, Chanel 5, is iconic and all around the world. Chanel first started by selling hats in Paris and later began making clothes. Her fame came when she designed a dress made from an old jersey on a chilly night. Chanel was the victim of a love scandal with a Nazi officer, where people questioning her loyalty to her country. Chanel suffered a sort of exile in Switzerland, but returned to the fashion world at the age of 70. Her initial designs were met with criticism, but eventually it caught on and sold in shops around the world. Although Chanel passed away in 1971, Today Chanel’s legacy is carried on in musical, film, and obviously, fashion.

Hilary Clinton was the First Lady for her husband, Bill Clinton, our 43rd President. Clinton has dedicated her life to fighting against child abuse and being an advocate for women’s rights. Clinton first served as a defense attorney and lawyer in Massachusetts. She then served as a Senator for the State of New York for 8 years. She was very popular after her efforts in increasing the funding for renovating lower Manhattan after September 11th, 2001. Clinton is a part of the Democratic Party. In 2008, she attempted to become the first female President of the United States. She didn’t win, but ended up becoming the Secretary of State for President Barack Obama. She also became the 1st First Lady to serve in the President’s cabinet. Clinton has received many awards for her work with different causes from both American and international organizations.

Marie Curie made it possible for women around the world to begin to study and take up a career in science. She is the first women to receive the Noble Peace Prize. She is the only scientist to receive 2 Noble Peace Prizes in the area of Science: One in Physics and the other one in Chemistry. She was also the first female professor at the University of Paris. Marie Curie was born in Poland, where she began to further her education and study science. She found the Curie Institute, which is a facility used for medical research, even today. She named the first chemical element she discovered, polonium, after her Poland. Marie Curie died in 1934 due to effects of radiation exposure. She got to be entombed in a x-ray unit that she designed herself.

Before she worked in the Supreme Court, Sandra Day O’Connor served as elected official and judge in Arizona. Sandra Day O’Connor was married to John O’Connor, who passed away from Alzheimer’s Disease in 2009. After her husband passed, O’Connor became a spokesperson and helped to spread the world about the disease. Also in 2009, Sandra Day O’Connor was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States, given by President Barack Obama.

She was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame. She raised many funds for the American Foundation for the Blind. Keller had a series of strokes and spent her last couple of years at home. She passed away in her sleep on June, 1st, 1968. Keller legacy is remember through the rights she made available to those who were impaired. When she passed, a ceremony was held at the National Cathedral, where she is buried next to her two caretakers.
